Unleash Your Inner Fisherman at Sorø and Tuelsø

Unleash Your Inner Fisherman at Sorø and Tuelsø

Recently, we explored the trails around Sorø and Tuelsø, two captivating lakes nestled in the heart of Sjælland. The picturesque trails, captivating lakes, and charming towns are the perfect escape places from the daily hustle and bustle. Join us as we recount the 23-kilometer hiking day, where there was a blend of nature, history, and tranquility.

Morning Bliss

Our hiking day in Sorø started with a morning ritual – a big breakfast paired with steaming mugs of coffee. As we packed our backpacks with freshly made sandwiches, we couldn’t help but feel the excitement building up. We then hopped on the train to Sorø station, eager to kickstart the hike. And then… into the forest we go! A few steps from the station, we were then surrounded by forest trees.

An Easy Access and Convenient Starting Point

One of the many charms of this trail is its accessibility. With the trail conveniently connecting the train station in Sorø from Copenhagen and eslewhere in Denmark, reaching the starting point is an easy first step of the hike. Whether you are local or a visitor, simply hop off at the train station and begin this trail. Not long after we were engulfed by the forest, we reached the path along the lake of Sorø.

Glacial Waters: Glimpsing into the Depths of Time

Legend has it that the lakes of Sorø and Tuelsø were born of a primordial dance between ice and earth. The collosal glaciers carved their way through the land, crafting these beautiful lakes that now mirror the sky with their crystal clear water. We felt truly fortunate to see them with our own eyes.

Perfect Spots for Lunch ,Relax and Capming Under the Starry Skies

During the hike, we found numerous spots along the trail: tables and benches were seen on a regular basis. These resting areas were perfect to pause, unwind, enjoy a well-deserved lunch break, and soak up the serene surroundings. For those seeking a deeper outdoor experience, there is one big camping site and plenty of places to spend the night around the water. Just pitch a tent, sleep under the stars, and wake up to breathtaking views of the lakes. We were however more curious to explore the rest of the trek, so we ventured further.

Charming Villas and Houses on display

Amidst the lush and lake scenery of the trail, one cannot help but be captivated by the sight of beautiful villas and houses scattered around the lakes. These cozy houses with beautiful gardens stole our attention from the trees and lake views and truly made us dream of the perfect lake lifestyle.

Versatile and Seamlessly Integrated Trail with Sorø and Frederiksberg Cities

What sets this hiking trail apart is its seamless merger with Sorø and Frederiksberg cityscapes. Step out from the forest trails and into the urban areas, get a coffee, visit the Sorø Klosterkirke, Sorø Art Museum and Sorø Museum, and do not forget to check the Akademihaven Sorø which has a rich history and a peacefull and beautiful garden. We have decided though to dedicate our hike on the forest paths, but only passed through the city center of Sorø.

Aquatic delights: Kayaking and Rowing Clubs

For the water enthusiasts, the lakes of Sorø and Tuelsø offer an array of exciting water activities. It is possible to rent a kayak and have a rowing adventure in the crystal-clear waters. If this isn’t quite your cup of tea, then you can take your swimming suit, lay down on one of the beach areas and feel the refreshing breeze on your face.

 Unleash Your Inner Fisherman

If fishing is your passion, these lakes are a fishing paradise. The only thing to do is to ensure the necessary permission to fish and cast a line into the lake waters. So, channel your inner fisheman skills and patience as you await the fish to get the bait. We are not fishermen so we only dedicated the hike to exploring the forest paths.

Feathered Friends and Deers and More

No need to fret if you forgot your headphones at home. The trail is accompanied by the delightful chirping of birds and the soothing water splash by the shore. If luck is on your side, you might even spot a deer. We saw one close to the road at the exit of Sorø lake. Here is one of the furry friends we met- a cheeky black and white cat.

The hike around Sorø and Tuelsø was nothing short of a nice escapade from the hustle and bustle of the city. From the accessibility of the trail to the abundant picnic spots, and the vibrant nature and urbanity, this trail offers a little something for everyone. Whether you’re seeking to get a quite retreat, a family outing, or a chance to reconnect with nature’s wonders, this trail has something to offer to anyone.
