Heeding the Call of National Geogrpahic: 20 km hike around Forest Tower and Hasede Skov

Heeding the Call of National Geogrpahic: 20 km hike around Forest Tower and Hasede Skov

This 20km hike through the captivating Skovtårnet (a.k.a. the Forest Tower)  and Hasede Skov was inspired by an eye-opening National Geographic article that shed light on deforestation and the urgent need for preservation.  Our trek became a passionate quest to witness the beauty of these forests and understand their vital role in our planet’s ecological balance. With Forest Tower as our guiding beacon, we began this hike that would awaken our senses and reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding these precious woodlands.

A Hike Fueled by Purpose

Our hike started at Tureby station, where we arrived by train, ready to embark on our nature-filled quest. After a short bus ride to Ronnede, we set foot towards the Forest Tower. Inspired by the striking image of the tower captured in the National Geographic article, excitement started building up within us.

Forest Tower offering a Panoramic View

The Forest Tower is a remarkable architectural marvel, designed by Danish architects and completed in 2019. The tower stands tall at 45 meters and is made entirely of locally sourced oak wood. This is namely one of the most fascinating aspects as it is completely sustainable structure, employing energy-efficient design principles.

Its unique design represents a spiral ramp that takes people all the way to the top. For us, reaching Forest Tower top, raising above the treetops, was a moment of triumph, as we were rewarded with a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. From this elevated point, we were rewarded with a panoramic view of forest landscapes stretching as far as the eye could see.

Hasede Skov: A Haven of Wildlife and Tranquility

After descending from the tower, we ventured into Hasede Skov. Not long after, we found ourselves immersed in a haven of tranquility. The forest was truly alive in this spring day with the sounds of chirping birds, scampering squirrels, and occasional glimpses of graceful deers roaming freely. These were great drivers for us as we meandered along the forest pathways among the trees.

Time for Reflection and Appreciation

Throughout our trek, we discovered numerous spots to pause, catch our breath, and revel in the tranquility of the forest. These beautiful resting points allowed us to reflect on the vital role forests play in maintaining our planet’s ecological balance and provided an opportunity to reflect more the lessons by the National Geographic article.

A Return to Urbanity

As our unforgettable day neared its end, we bid farewell to the serene forests of Hasede Skov. Getting on a bus from Boserup to Næstved, and finally a train back to the vibrant streets of Copenhagen, we carried the echoes of our woodland adventure within us. The hike fueled a sense of urgency in us to advocate for forest preservation, to ensure that future generations could experience the same sense of wonder and connection to nature.
