Everything You Need is in Höör: Lakes, Parks and Animals

After a long week of office work, we were itching to get back to nature and go on a hiking adventure. Despite the initial uncertainty due to the weather forecast showing rain, Friday evening brought a change of heart, and we decided to plan a trip to Höör in Sweden. We woke up and had hearty breakfast, and eagerly planned our trip to this beautiful destination in the very last minute.

On the Move to Höör

Our day began with a hearty breakfast and a steaming cup of strong coffee before catching the train to Höör. Although the train ride was supposed to be direct, we had a slight detour in Malmö due to work on the railways. The train was bustling with tourists heading to the airport or with backpacks like us to Swedish naure. Nevertheless, the pleasant ride from Malmö to Höör compensated for the inconvenience, we even had the train cabin for ourselves.

Boats for renting around the Växsjön lake

City Stroll and Ekastiga National Park

Upon arriving in Höör, we strolled through the charming city before going further towards Ekastiga National Park, the first natural park on our agenda. The path alongside the animal farm, Skåne Djurpark, offered a leisurely walk, gradually ascending but easily manageable. Along the way, we saw two deers that startled us (or we did startle them) as they jumped and run into the forest behind the trees.

Short Picnic at Vaxsjön Lake

Our first milestone of the day was the picturesque Vaxsjön Lake, and the moment it came into view, we were amazed by its serene blue waters. We found the perfect spot to rest and enjoy a picnic on a bench overlooking the lake. The area was dotted with fishermen and camping sites, making us a tad envious that we couldn’t do the same that day.

Just follow the picturesque forest pathways

Frostavallen-Ullstorp Park

After lunch, we continued our hike along the lake, passing by boats available for rent, but we decided to press on and explore more. This led us to the border between Frostavallen and Ullstorp Park, a beautiful place with dense forests and beautiful paths. Crossing wooden crafted stairs brought us to another road. A few moments later, we followed a path marked with charming red-colored pieces of wood, leading us through a hilly forest path covered with brown dried leaves. On our way we saw also a camping site with a rustic fire pit and tools for chopping wood. The path eventually opened up, surrounded by lush green grass and tall trees. As we continued, the landscape changed again and we were in a forest adorned with green-covered stones and rocks.

Snacks on the Way to Prästtorpasjön Lake

Nature continued to surprise us, and soon we found ourselves among raspberry bushes, unable to resist the temptation of a little snack break. Energized and excited, we pushed forward towards Lake Prästtorpasjön. The breathtaking views made us grateful for our decision to explore this route.

Change of Plans

With newfound energy, we decided to change our initial plan to reach further west to lakes Prästtorpasjön and Tjörnarpasjön and catch the train back to Copenhagen from Tjörnarp. Instead we set our sights on Dagstorp National Park and the Dagstorpssjön Lake to the north. Changing our course, we retraced our steps for a while before heading towards the park . The path led us through a forest filled with diverse landscapes, from wide and flat sections to narrow and hilly stretches. On the way we were also lucky to spot a falcon, and this time, we managed to capture it on video, a cherished moment for our new GoPro camera.

The Picturesque Lake in Dagstorp National Park

Our time at Dagstorp National Park was a serene trekking through tall pine trees and picturesque landscapes. We occasionally saw raspberries on the way and couldn’t resist to stop and get some more snack. Just before entering the park we passed through a farm with many hairy cows and their calves. We stopped for a while to admire them and take pictures. Soon after, we reached Dagstorpssjön Lake, its vastness and crystal-clear waters left us in awe, and we marveled at the stunning views from the western coast of the lake.

Capturing moments at Dagstorpssjön lake

Around Dagstorpssjön Lake

The path continued along the eastern coast of Dagstorpssjön and to the north, revealing rocky sections and picturesque viewpoints that left us in awe again. Along the way, we saw a lot of camping spots with people enjoying the serenity of the lake. Some were fishing, while others gathered around a campfire. We looped around the lake, and then headed westward into the forest. Initially we walked on a dusty road where cars were also allowed to drive but then at the south part of the lake we detoured westward from the lake and followed a nice and wide, well-marked path. Soon after the landscape changed again to a narrow grassy path that felt like a hidden gem within the woods.

Crossing the Ekastiga National Park

The path then took us through pine tree-filled areas in the Ekastiga Park. The path was wide and only straight, so we could savor the final moments of our hike. At the exit of the park we were also sent home by sheep and beautiful horses from the local farm, and a beautiful white and black woodpecker with a red head

passed over us on the finishing line in Ekastiga Park. We eventually reached the outskirts of Höör, retracing our steps to the train station.

Homecoming

Despite a bit of rain on our way back to Höör station, our spirits remained high as we knew we had recorded our adventure with the new GoPro camera. The 25 km hike had left us exhausted yet exhilarated, and we eagerly anticipated sharing the footage with our followers. Back home, we enjoyed a well-deserved dinner – homemade pizza for one and a fruit feast for the other. On the next day, our journey would continue to Odense, where we planned to visit the Hans Christian Andersen museum, making the most of a rainy weekend in Denmark.

Hiking in Höör was an unforgettable experience, with its beautiful lakes, diverse parks, and beautiful animals we saws. It reminded us of the simple joys in life – exploring nature’s wonders, capturing memories, and looking forward to the next adventure that awaits us.
